President Donald Trump said in an interview last Saturday that whistleblower Edward Snowden was “not being treated fairly” and that he would “look into” the matter of granting him a Presidential Pardon.
“I’m going to take a look at that very strongly, Edward Snowden,”Trump said during a press conference on Saturday. Snowden, a former CIA employee, copied and disclosed classified information from the National Security Agency (NSA) back in 2013. Snowden’s leaks stirred a national and international controversy over US’s reach on surveillance and triggered heated debate on the matter. Trump’s remarks coincided with Republican Congressman of Kentucky Thomas Massie’s call last Friday to grant Snowden a Presidential Pardon.
